You have to define what the context of "multitasking performance" is. For a single user Wintel workstation the experiment has already been done. Compare the results of the SCSI Atlas IV and the UDMA66 Fireball +KA at www.storagereview.com. The two drives are identical except the Atlas IV has a .5 msec. faster seek.

Intel 386 made multitasking possible? ROTFL! { Snip } And don't forget the Control Data 6600 and followons. They could multiprocess batch jobs as well as interactive jobs, all at the same time. They were the first computer systems that I know of that were specifically designed for multitasking/multiprocessing.

Sometimes things like Synching require multitasking, but these are things that most users would not recognize as multitasking. So if someone is trying to be a ninny (Hi Peter!!!) then they will argue that Palm OS is a multitasking OS or that it has a multitasking processor - which is technically true.
